PAST NEWS - 2008

Birthday Girl Requests Goodies for Shelter Animals
Rather than get gifts for herself, Patience Simmons, Canton, (below) had
her friends bring goodie's for the animals at the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
Patience turned nine years old on her birthday on November 20th.

Potsdam Area Girls Raise Money For The Animal Shelter
In their 2nd annual Read-a-thon, three Potsdam area girls chose the
Potsdam Animal Shelter as the recipient of their efforts. Samantha Frick,
9 years old, attends Lawrence Ave. Elementary;she is in the 4th grade.
Rachael Clements, 10 years old and Rhiannon Clements, 8 years old,
are home schooled. Rachael is in the 5th grade and Rhiannon is in the 3rd
   grade.

Samantha Frick decided last year that she wanted to raise money for
charity. She was joined by her friends the Clements’ girls and the annual
   Frick/Clements Read-a-thon began.

This year, their goal was to raise $900.00. The girls asked family and
friends to sponsor them. To raise the money, they read 88 books
(a total of 4,963 pages) during the month of August. Together the three
   girls raised $869.00.

Local Girl Donates Birthday Money to Shelter
Rebecca McCartney (below), West Postdam, asked for money for the
Animal Shelter instead of gifts for her birthday (September 10th). She
turned 12 years old and donated $110 to the Potsdam Humane Society.

Angelo's Benefit Dinner a Huge Success!
The second annual Angelo's Gourmet Benefit Dinner for the Potsdam
Humane Society was held on Sunday the 28th of September and was a
huge success! A heartfelt thank you goes to Angelo Landi, Jr and his
staff who donated their time and talents to make this second annual
fundraiser twice as successful as last year's $1000 event! The 5 course
"prix fixe" dinner with a choice of 5 different entrees was masterfully
prepared by Angelo and served by his wait staff (see attached picture).

Also many thanks to those who supported us by coming to enjoy an
excellent meal, and donated $2100 to benefit the Potsdam Humane
Society's Labor of Love Capital Campaign. This event was a "win-win"
experience for everyone--especially the Shelter animals. To add to the
fun, three raffles for baskets donated by Ashley House of Norwood,
Domino's Pizza and the North Country Insurance Professionals were drawn.
Winners were Bill Crary, Irene Hargrave, and Laura Duval.

The Humane Society's capital campaign has reached the end of its first
phase of its $850,000 total goal. Phase II will begin soon! This will be
a more ambitious effort to raise money because construction will happen
soon. The ground breaking is scheduled for the Spring of 2009. The
Humane Society plans to build a new adoption wing, including a
classroom, to renovate the present animal shelter to accommodate
the isolation of stray animals and a larger surgery area, and to add to
an endowment to guarantee operating funds for the new facility in
  the future.

Anyone wishing to help out with fund raising, please call these board
members: Jane at 261-4387 or Bonnie at 353-2847. Visit our
  Capital Campaign web page!

Local Boy Donates Birthday Money to Shelter
Phillip North, Jr. (below) of Norfolk had a birthday party and instead of
getting gifts, he asked that his friends give the money to the Animal
   Shelter.

and Salons,Inc., three deserving employees of the Potsdam Humane
Society will receive a complementary hair cut, manicure or tanning
sessions. Penny and her canine friend (far right in photo)

Both Ms. LaValley and the Potsdam Humane Society Board are pleased
that these outstanding animal caregivers get a little extra "pay" for their
dedicated work in our community. We thank Penny for being so kind to
   her Madrid Avenue neighbors.
